10/100 Hammerhead Shark/ shumokuzame 撞木鮫🐟

Look! We were lucky enough to get this hammerhead shark! 🦈

The fisherwomen told us it was the first time they got this in the net. I was so excited to see this in the ocean❤️‍🔥

Hammerhead shark can be usually found in offshore of Izu pininsula or southern part of Okinawa. They are comparatively aggressive (and may attack human sometimes) but at the same time sensitive. When they see humans, they usually run away.

It gets very smelly unless we get rid of its blood as soon as catch it because of its ammonia.

Then are you wondering whether I eat or not?!
People rarely eat hammerhead shark in Japan and merely see in the market, but it can be locally eaten (usually deep-fried).

Its skin was like a file and in Japan it is called "samehada (shark skin)". I am not sure whether this hammerhead shark skin is used, but the shark skin is used to grate wasabi root. Also the term "samehada" is used when our (human) skin is rough and bumpy🤪
